About the film
Bela is eight. Her parents talk less and louder every week, and the nights in the house have grown longer than the days. On one of those nights her mother comes out of the closet.
Except it is not her mother. Bela calls her Other Mommy, and at first she seems better than the real one: more attentive, gentler, always there. The further the family falls apart, the more room Other Mommy takes, and the clearer it becomes what she wants in return.
Rob Savage, who made Host, adapts Josh Malerman’s novel with Jessica Chastain playing both mothers. The film is about what a child sees while the adults believe they are asleep.

Why this hour
The last film screens when the room has no resistance left. That is the only hour of the night when a story about a child left alone with whatever comes out of the closet lands the way it should. After it there is only the dawn, and the understanding that you have to walk home in daylight carrying what you just saw.
